“Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
During Lent this year, we invite you to join us in trying out a spiritual discipline called Centering Prayer, a contemplative prayer practice. For six consecutive days during Holy Week, we will being our morning by gathering online to pray silently. Amidst the chaos in the world the and swiftly moving pace of our lives, contemplative prayer is a way we can ground ourselves by “resting in God” (Gregory the Great, 6th century).
In the Christian tradition, contemplative prayer is considered to be the pure gift of God. It is the opening of mind and heart — our whole being — to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words and emotions.
How does it work?
- Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s presence and action within. Ex: Jesus, Amen, Hope, Love, Open
- Sitting comfortably and with eyes closed, settle briefly and silently introduce the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God’s presence and action within.
- When engaged with your thoughts, return every so gently to the sacred word
